Matern Island Custom is a waterfront residence on Lake LBJ where entertaining, privacy, and the waterline are treated as one continuous experience. A series of covered outdoor rooms, terraces, and water-facing living spaces anchor the home to its setting from sunrise through sunset.
02 — Design Response
The challenge
Shape a substantial family retreat around the water while retaining comfortable, intimate gathering spaces and an uninterrupted relationship to the lake.
The Westway response
Westway coordinated the home, pool, terraces, and lake access as a layered sequence. Shaded arches shelter the outdoor living areas, the infinity-edge pool extends the horizon, and every major space is positioned to hold the water in view.
03 — Material & Light
Hand-finished stone, generous arches, and a restrained palette let the structure feel composed and enduring while the lake remains the focal point.
The covered outdoor living room, pool, and lake read as one continuous space.
A tailored wine display is set into stone beneath the stair hall.
Layered exterior forms add shade, privacy, and framed views across the water.
